So, doesn't this tell you something? I don't think begging Congress to do "the right thing" is the way to conduct politics--in fact it is laughable. This is not the political world that exists in High School textbooks--this is the real world of the street. The fist rules in the political arena. You have to force Waxman and others through the exercise of power. If you don't have power you can forget about influencing Congress because there are plenty of people who do use power and they get to play the game. Get power and then do something.
All that illegal surveillance that turned up criminal activity, but the activity was never investigated, Sibel mentions it somewhere -- Lukery, do you recall the details? --
Well, the reason no investigations were forthcoming has to be that the illegal surveillance had an illegal purpose: extortion. I think I recall reading that idea put forth somewhere, too.
There won't be any hearings. Congress may make some noise, but generally they know to keep their heads down.
